Meet my family...

As I mentioned before, I live outside of Fairfax, VA with my husband and our two cats. So here is a little bit of information on them:

Mike, my husband is an accountant for a government contractor. He is currently taking classes at our local community college so that he has enough credits to become certified as a CPA. I am very proud of him for doing this, because I know the last thing that he wants to do at the end of a long work day is sit in a three hour class. However, he has a goal in his mind and is motivated to achieve it.
Outside of work and school Mike is also the member of a pool league. He is a 7 (which is the highest ranking you can get), and it the captain of an 8-ball and a 9-ball team.
His most important role is that of a supportive husband. He has been my source of strength as I have continued my education. Not once has he complained that I do not have a real job, or a real paycheck, in fact he has even supported my decision to forego extra money in exchange for my sanity. I have never once heard a comment about how much time I get off, or how I leave after him and home before him most days, and am probably the one who spend most of the money that he brings in. During exam and high stress periods, he has patiently listened to me complain about my stress, and has willingly picked up the slack around the house. I could not ask for a better husband.

We adopted Italics when he was just 8 weeks old, and he has been spoiled ever since. He is my baby with a personality all his own. On most days he wants absolutely nothing to do with Mike and I, but when he does decide that he wants love, he will follow us all around the house rubbing up against our legs. When he was a baby Mike and I went to a yard sale and bought a stuffed tiger, who we named Jake. Though Italics won't play with Jake in front of us, we think he is embarassed, we are constantly finding Jake all over the house when we get home from work. Italics is often more fondly refured to as "Toot" or "Tootie" as a result of being blamed for someone else's toot when he was first brought home.

Maisy was adopted into our family when she was six months old. Tootie was acting lonely, so Mike and I decided that we wanted to get him a playmate for when we weren't home. From the beginning Maisy has brought nothing but drama! She is a long hair calico, and is a little diva. She absolutely has to be the focus of everyone's attention at all time. You can not sit down in a chair without Maisy climbing in your lap, and not moving until she is pushed out. She also likes to play mommy to Toot, grooming him and cuddling with him, though most of the time, especially if Mike and I around to see it, he wants absolutely nothing to do with her.


I guess you could say Maisy has a bit of my personality, and Italics a bit of Mike's.

Giving this a try

For the past several months I have been reading the blogs of others as they appear in my facebook feed. As I read them I keep thinking that I would like to have a place to tell my story, post my pictures, and share interesting information that I come across. However, the two things that have kept me from starting are, fear that I will have nothing important to say, and fear that no one will listen. I have finally decided to just do it anyway.

For those of you who have stumbled upon this, I thank you for taking the time to read, and I welcome you to follow on this journey with me. I may not always have the most interesting or meaningful story to tell, but my hope is that the ride will be worth it.

Before we jump in too deep here is a little information about me, I am 24 years old, and am about to enter into my fourth year of a doctoral program in Applied Developmental Psychology. I currently work as an academic advisor, undergraduate instructor, and research manager, all in our psychology department. I currently reside just outside of Fairfax, VA with my husband, and our two cats. My goals for the future include: a tenure position in academia, building a family, owning a home, and being happy.
